Program Description

*Therapeutic horseback riding for individuals with special needs who are 5 years and older. Therapeutic riding that is also educational and recreational, exercising the body, mind and spirit. Program site is located at 4640 CR 675 in East Bradenton.

Eligibility Requirements and Important Information

Any person with special needs of any kind (ADHD, emotional, physical, cognitive, CP, MS, Autism, hearing/speech delays or loss, etc.)ages 4 and up is eligible for our program. All participants must complete an application which includes a medical form that must be completed by a medical professional to ensure appropriateness of therapeutic riding. The application can be downloaded from the website (www.smartriders.org) or can be received by mail by request.

Points of Interest

Our program also offers therapeutic driving (horse and cart driving lessons.) Individuals that are unable to ride a horse due to health or weight issues or because they cannot transfer from their wheelchair will be eligible for this activity. As a mostly volunteer program, we depend heavily on the support of our volunteers and welcome anyone that might be interested in helping us out! Experience with horses and/or individuals with disabilities is helpful but not required!
