Program Description
**A Community Based match is the traditional Big Brother Bis Sister match where the Big and Little meet a couple of times a month in the community. Scheduling is flexible to meet the needs of the mentors and the youth. Most of the youth live in a single parent household or are being raised by extended family members. The object is to provide a child with a positive role model who is able to spend time with the child on a one-to-one basis. Typical interactions could include: shooting hoops, playing a board game, taking a walk in the park, hanging out, discuss life and personal issues, etc.
**A Site Based match is where the Big and Little meet for one hour per week at a supervised location (typically the child's school) during the school day or as part of an afterschool program. Site Based mentoring is not a tutoring program; the main focus of the program is on developing a friendship. Typical interactions could include: reading together, working on school assignments, play sports or computer games, discuss life and personal issues, etc.
