Program Description

At First Baby Steps, we meet participants where you are without judgment, recognizing some of the challenges you face as we have lived experience in SUD and AUD and long-term recovery, homelessness, MH challenges, human trafficking, incarceration, DCF/SCC and single motherhood. We WALK WITH our moms through the different phases of sobriety and obstacles one may face as our Recovery Peers have been through that quest and are on the other side! Our program provides weekly 1 to 1, face-to-face visits in their safe spaces, to see where the participant is on their recovery expedition and how we can support them. We also provide community information or assistance in navigating those resources if needed. Peers can also assist with resume writing and job resources on what companies hire those with a less than perfect background. We are a support for families and if DCF/SCC IS involved we can help you steer though a case plan or a safety planwe are another bridge to ensure the safety and well-being of the child and another set of eyes for a safety plan or to help the client enroll in needed classes for their case plan to have successful journey.

Points of Interest

We are part of the PLAN OF SAFE CARE and on UniteUs. Recovery peers (or Peer Recovery Specialists) are individuals with lived experience in mental health or substance use disorder recovery who are trained to support others on similar journeys. By leveraging their personal, "walked-the-walk" experience, peers offer emotional, social, and practical support to foster long-term recovery, empowerment, and hope.
