Program Description
F.F.E. (FOUNDATION FOR EXCELLENCE)
Offered 4 days a week, for 3 hours each day, year-round, before and after school time program for disadvantaged, at-risk children ages 5-17 years old. Our program follows the evidenced-based approach of The Strengthening Families Protective Framework. It incorporates social and emotional learning (SEL), age appropriate, supervised, structured and literacy focus activities that are fun. The program is twofold: 1) enhances character development and increases reading levels by reducing existing literacy gaps towards developmentally appropriate literacy skills for all participants, and 2) Uses an objective literacy method in a balanced academic, social development, physical well-being, and creative expression method. The kids are also introduced to many educational and lifestyle skills. These skills include the following components: Personal Wellness: Responsibility, Communication, Listening skills, teamwork, language skills and Self Esteem. Education: Reading skills, Writing skills, FCAT practice, ACT practice, SAT practice, College search and College applications. Career: Career exploration, Leadership development, Create an effective Resume, Interviews and Job applications. It also incorporates a curriculum which is based on ESOL principles and practices designed to provide students with information and skills necessary for English language learners, cross-cultural understanding, applied linguistics and testing and evaluation of students.
