Points of Interest

75% of teens reported that their parents are the #1 influence regarding the use of alcohol. Open and on-going lines of communication between a parent and child are the key to preventing underage drinking. That's why MADD created the Power of Parents program. Power of Parents is a FREE, 30-minute workshop presented to any interested group of parents or caregivers of children. The program provides tips and conversation starters for talking with teens about alcohol use, discussing different parenting styles and their effectiveness and informs parents of the peer pressures their teens are facing. Parents leave the Power of Parents workshop with a research-based handbook to use when talking with their teens and with a sense of empowerment in having what could be a life-saving conversation with their child. Power of You(th) MADD's Power of You(th) is an educational program provided to middle- and high school-aged youth. The program uses an interactive approach to involve the youth in a conversation about their thoughts, questions and fears about alcohol. Facts about alcohol use are shared, as well as risks associated with underage drinking. The program ends with an opportunity for each participant to share a personal goal and then to consider how alcohol use could interfere with realizing that goal. The Power of You(th) program is provided to any interested group of students, whether through school or civic organizations.
